Picking a New Dentist on your New Dental Plans

Most people you talk to dislike going to the dentist, it's definitely not one of life's most exciting moments! Finding a dentist that you like and feel comfortable with going too doesn't have to be difficult but it will require you to do some research. Below we are going to share some tips that will allow you to find a new dentist within your new dental plan, that you will feel at ease with.

Timing is Important

If you have a children and a hectic work schedule it's imperative for you to make sure that they will meet your scheduling needs. Are they open on Saturdays? Do they have late night or early hours allowing you go schedule your appointment either before or after work? Also how far is the office from your work or home? Is the Dentist available for emergencies after hours?

Word of Mouth

Not sure which new dentist or dental plan to choose? Get referrals! Ask your friends, family, co-workers which dentist they use. You can also call your dental plan and they will usually have a suggestion for you. However, asking friends and family may make you feel more at ease as they have personally been to this dentist and they are referring you to them.

Tour the Office

Most dentist offices will allow you to make an appointment for a consultation visit. When bringing your children to the dentist you will want to know that they are child friendly, neat and orderly. Every dental office must follow the guidelines that the OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) has set forth for sterilization and disinfections. Taking a tour before your first visit will allow you and your children to feel more at ease before your first dental appointment in their office.

Any Time Day or Night

Will your new dentist be available to you at all hours of the night should an emergency arise? Be sure to ask the office staff the procedures they follow for emergency care. Do they have an answering service? How long does it take for a typical call back?

How does the dental office handle vacations? Will they have another dentist to fill in? Find out the name of the dentist that will fill in during this time. You may never need it but it's good to know ahead of time should an emergency arise.

Dental Plan Services and Specialties

What type of dental services and plans does the dentist offer? Does he work strictly on adults or does he also cater to pediatric dentistry? Does he only do general dentistry or does he also deal with special services needed. Find out if your Dentist has a list of specialist that he will refer you too should you need a service he doesn't provide such as oral surgery, periodontal surgery and the like.

Dental Plans with Payment Options

Should you need to have a costly procedure done will you be expected to render payment at the time of the visit? Do they have finance and payment options for costly procedures? This is a very important factor should you find yourself needing a procedure that is not fully covered by your dental plan.

Using these few tips to research potential new dentists and dental plans will help you feel more comfortable and at ease with your new dentist. Having a dentist you trust and feel secure with is essential to your dental care and that of your family.
