Your Business Is Making Money – Now What?

You've done it! You've built your business and it is now making money. Now what? Do you sit and watch the money roll in? That wouldn't be a wise decision because it doesn't happen that way.

Even though your business is now making money, it doesn't mean you stop doing what you've done to get it to this point. You need to keep marketing, networking, optimizing your website and whatever else you were doing before. Why? Because before you know it, the business could fall. Here's a quote that is a perfect example:

“Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.”
~Will Rogers~

I have a friend who is in a service business. He was doing really well, so well that he stopped marketing his website. He even stopped looking for clients. Complacency became his friend. Then it happened. Before he knew it, his clients, one by one, went elsewhere. He was left without a single client.

My friend had to scramble to pick up the pieces again. He optimized his website, he submitted the URL everywhere he could and he networked. It took a while, but his business began to buzz once more.

He learned his lesson. It doesn't take much for a client to go elsewhere; most times it isn't even something that you did wrong. In order for your business to survive, you are going to have to continue working at it. Granted, you have customers right now and your business is doing well. But that could change at any time.

What you should do is set a schedule to take care of your business. Choose one hour every day where you will work on your business. During this hour, do any of the promotion techniques above. You could even do one thing each day. A daily schedule could look like this:

Monday – Website optimization
Tuesday – Website promotion
Wednesday – Networking
Thursday – Business promotion – business cards, flyers, etc.
Friday – Statistical analysis of your business

It always pays to keep current and look ahead. This is the way to a successful business.
