Some glycosaminoglycans in cartilage are reported to have anti-inflammatory, anti-tumour and immune system-stimulating properties. Bovine Cartilage contains several angiogenesis inhibitors that block the formation of new blood vessels which are necessary for cancerous tumours to grow. These angiogenesis inhibitors have been identified as Cartilage-derived inhibitor (CDI), Cartilage-derived antitumor factor (CATF) and cartilage-derived collagenase inhibitor (CDCI). Bovine cartilage is an ingredient in blood-and-bone fertilizers. Bovine cartilage, marketed as a nutritional supplement.
